About Bill Papagiannopoulos, M.D.

Bill Papagiannopoulos, M.D. is a psychiatrist with Healthy Minds NYC, trained across the full developmental arc from childhood through adulthood (a combination few psychiatrists carry). He completed his medical degrees through the accelerated Medical Scholars Program at St. Louis University, his adult psychiatry residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and a subsequent fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the same institution before establishing an independent practice in Chicago and later relocating to New York City.

Six years of training in where adult patterns begin

Most psychiatrists specialize in one end of the developmental spectrum. Dr. Papagiannopoulos trained in both. His residency gave him a rigorous foundation in adult psychiatric care. His fellowship gave him something rarer: a close look at how early development, family dynamics, and adolescence set the terms for how someone functions, achieves, and relates as an adult. He brings that lens into every adult session, not as theory, but as a working diagnostic tool.

Where his focus lives now

His clinical work centers on anxiety and panic, attention and focus difficulties in high-functioning adults, perfectionism and intrusive thought patterns, grief and major loss, identity strain beneath year of achievement, career and life transitions, and relationship patterns. For clients who are also parents, his adolescent training means he can speak knowledgeably to what you’re seeing in your kids, not only what you’re carrying internally.

What it’s like working with him

Dr. Papagiannopoulos works methodically and without judgment. He takes real time to understand your history, your environment, and what’s actually driving the pattern in front of him before recommending a course of treatment. And he explains his thinking clearly enough that you’re never guessing at the plan. Clients describe him as calm, direct, and unusually good at connecting something happening now to where it started.

Two years into therapy with Healthy Minds NYC and I’ve improved more than I imagined was possible. […] We transformed negative thinking patterns into a deeper, kinder and overall mindful mindset, that is at times effortless. I’m also thankful for the care coordinator Stephanie who’s extended kindness and support to me during challenging insurance hurdles.

Diana Y.

A friend recommended Healthy Minds to me, and I am so glad I gave them a try. They offer a free consultation to find a therapist who will match your needs, and I’m really pleased with who they recommended for me. They are very clear with the insurance and payment process.
